Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis Concept was unveiled at 2013 Detroit Auto Show (North American International Auto Show), a concept meant to pave the way in a premium segment that is currently dominated by big players like Mercedes CLS and Audi A7.
Hyundai unveiled at the NAIAS 2013 the new Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis Concept. As the name suggests, the concept anticipates the future generation of Genesis, but also a new design line from which future models will use some details.

Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis Concept – Design & Engine
The most important aesthetic elements of the new Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis Concept seem to be the oversized front grille, which has large aluminum lines, the oval optical blocks and the opposite, Rolls Royce styled, opening doors.
Unveiling these features, Hyundai really claims that HCD-14 Genesis Concept reflects the future design lines for a large class sedan coupe, created in the same style as the premium models like Audi A7 and Mercedes CLS.
“We instilled HCD-14 with a premium-sport 4-door coupe road presence,” said Christopher Chapman, chief designer, Hyundai Design North America. “Its sleek and lightweight silhouette does not punish the wind, but uses fluidic precision with dramatic surfacing that conveys natural restraint. Inside, a driver-centric cockpit prioritizes dramatic sculpture over infotainment button overload. Laminated and milled-wood detailing delivers a fresh, topographical map-like visual interest throughout the cabin-length center console.”
An evolution of the “Fluidic Sculpture” philosophy, Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis Concept is powered by a 5.0-liter TAU V8 engine equipped with direct injection and dual control of the valves. The engine’s power is transmitted to the rear axle by an automatic 8-speed transmission completed with paddleshift.
John Krafcik, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America, said: “The success we’ve had so far in the premium segment with the Genesis and Equus models paves the way of our new products of this kind for the next coming years. HCD-14 Genesis gives an idea about the design direction we are heading to and is an indicator of the attention level we give to the dynamics and technology.”
