Every year, the Detroit Auto Show (North American International Auto Show) opens the new model launching season. It’s the first major motor show event in the automotive industry, and this edition has no shortage of interesting premieres.
Detroit Auto Show opens the ball in the automotive industry. Every year in January, all auto-media attention is directed to the capital of the U.S. state of Michigan, where the newest car models are on display at NAIAS 2013. As expected, this year has a number of premieres, especially from the American manufacturers.
Here are Top 10 Premieres exhibited at 2013 Detroit Auto Show:
The surprise that came from Ingolstadt directly to Detroit was the 2014 Audi RS7. A model whose release was not anticipated by the media, RS7 is the most powerful version of the elegant four-door coupe produced by Audi. The numbers are impressive: a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine that develops 560 HP and 553 pound-feet of torque. Sprinting from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.9 seconds, and if the client wants, electronic speed limit can be disabled. Thus, Audi RS7 can reach 189 mph (305 km/h).The power is transmitted to all four wheels thanks to an AWD Quattro system and a standard 8-speed automatic transmission.
The BMW stand in Detroit is pretty full of novelties. But all the attention was directed to the concept that’s announcing the future 4 Series, the new name of what was before known as the 3 Series Coupe. BMW will keep the new 4 Series name because it attempts to define this model as an independent one. The BMW stand in Detroit was completed by the M6 GranCoupe and the 2014 Z4.
This is perhaps the most important premier at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. Chevrolet lively starts the year presenting the seventh generation of the iconic sports car. With this generation, Chevrolet also revives the name Stingray, a name with resonance in the history of this model. Impressive, the new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray amazes with its four exhaust pipes, all grouped in the center of the rear. For the power, Chevrolet has chosen a new version of the V8 engine, called LT1, which has 6.2 liters and develops 450 HP and 450 pound-feet of torque (610 Nm). The power is transmitted to the rear axle via a 7-speed manual transmission.
Honda has brought to Detroit a concept called Urban SUV. This is the Japanese proposal for the city SUVs segment, a niche that lately has begun to grow rapidly. The Honda Urban SUV model wants to attack the rival Juke, a Nissan product. The series Urban SUV model is expected to debut on the Japanease market even this year, following to hit the U.S. in2014.
Detroit has become a favorite place for Japanese manufacturers to present their new models. Lexus is a major player in the North American market and could not miss the opportunity to present their newest model: IS. The latest generation of mid-range premium sedan wants to compete with BMW 3 Series and Audi A4.The new 2014 Lexus IS is impressive due to the aggressive design of the frontpart, while according to their press release, “the overall dynamic shape of the body emphasizes the wide flare of the wheel arches to give the new IS a broad, powerful stance”.
Jeep brought to Detroit a Grand Cherokee that went through a refreshing process. The new 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee has now a more prominent grille and lamp units that has been borrowed from the Chrysler 300C. Grand Cherokee also gets a new driving wheel and a redesigned dashboard clocks set that integrates a seven-inch central display. The gearshift lever also has a new design.
2014 Maserati Quattroporte
Detroit was also a good scene for the Italians from Maserati. The subject was their new sports sedan, the 2014 Maserati Quattroporte. Announced just before the American auto show, the new Quattroporte is the star of the Maserati stand as this is the first opportunity for the press and the public to admire the new model. The new 2014 Maserati Quattroporte will be available with two petrol engines: a 410 HP V6 or a 530 HP V8.
2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
Mercedes has an important model presented in Detroit2013: the new 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class. It’s an important model for Mercedes especially on the North American market. In addition to its completely facelifted family, Mercedes also brought to Detroit the powerfull model E63 AMG. The frontal part of the model has been seriously changed, dominated by a completely new bumper and seems inspired by the competing models in the DTM.
Volkswagen brought to NAIAS 2013 the concept of a full-sized SUV called CrossBlue. It predicts a future seven-seater SUV that will join the VW SUV’s family that’s now composed of Tiguan and Touareg. Most likely, the new model will be available only for the North American markets from United States and Canada.
The new 2014 Infiniti Q50 photos appeared on the internet in the last weekend that preceded the official presentation, but Infiniti has confirmed in the “press day” from Detroit 2013 that Q50 is the proposal for the medium range and will substitute the sedan called G. Infiniti Q50 is the first model of the brand which belongs to the new Infiniti’s nomenclature. The frontal part has now a more aggressive style and the headlights are using the theme found on the Etherea concept car. Seen in profile, the new 2014 Infiniti Q50 has the same fluid, Infiniti-style design.
