Acura brought the Detroit Auto Show 2012 two concepts and a series model: Acura RDX, Acura ILX Concept and jewel of the crown Acura NSX Concept. With the NSX concept, the brand’s fans expect again a successor for the famous Japanese supercar.
Acura came up with big plans at Detroit Auto Show 2012 (North American International Auto Show – NAIAS 2012). The Japanese luxury vehicle division of Honda Motor Company wants to dramatically increase sales in the future.
In the next two years, the Acura range will be refreshed and sales are expected to increase by 40%, the target being 180,000 units by the end of 2012. As the parent brand, Honda, Acura will focus on quality, services and environmental protection.
Acura NSX Concept
The new Acura NSX Concept is by far the most attractive concept present in the stand of the premium car manufacturer from Japan.
The famous successor of the ’90s supercar was presented by Takanobu Ito, head of Honda and the team leader who designed the original NSX. The new model will be focused on the driving pleasure and will deliver performance through efficiency.
NSX’s successor will be the first supercar from Honda with advanced technology and enviable handling. The Honda official specified that the future NSX will keep the centrally mounted V6 engine, except this time, it will be augmented by an electric motor.
Acura’s latest SH-AWD incorporates one electric motor in a dual-clutch transmission, forming a hybrid setup. Additionally, two more motors can instantly send negative or positive torque to the front wheels during cornering for improved handling and efficiency, and the whole package can be tailored via software. Acura says the new all-wheel-drive system will provide “supercar acceleration while offering outstanding efficiency.”

Acura RDX Prototype
Acura RDX is a “prototype”, in fact just a pre-production crossover – a 2013 version that projected a facelift for the five-seat Japanese car. The model presented in Detroit Auto Show 2012 looks close to production, as is the case of ILX Concept.
Both at the interior and the exterior level, the new Acura RDX has a look which should become more popular among customers and respects the Japanese brand’s design philosophy. Acura RDX has now an extended wheelbase and an increased track width to provide more space for passengers and a larger luggage compartment.

Acura ILX Concept
The Acura model is based on the Honda Civic and will be built at the Honda factory in India.
Acura ILX will be offered with two engines: a four-cylinder 2.0-liter unit and another unit with four-cylinder but in line of 2.4-liter, which will be offered with a six-speed manual transmission. ILX will become the first hybrid model in the Acura range, following to be offered in the company of a 1.5-liter petrol engine and a hybrid drive train.
