2013 Cadillac ATS – Weight distribution: 50/50
Because the Americans fight with the European models, the new 2013 Cadillac ATS was developed on the famous Nurburgring circuit, in an effort to obtain the best possible ride for the rear drive sedan.
The American engineers have tried to give birth to a car which doesn’t exceeds 3400 lbs (1545 kg), distributed 50% on the front axle and 50% on the rear axle. The weight distribution on both axes puts the American model side by side to 3 Series and A4.
Cadillac ATS Engine
The new Cadillac ATS base engine is 2.5-liter naturally aspirated inline-four, putting out 200 horsepower (150 Kw / 203 PS) and 188 pound-feet of torque (255 Nm), which should be good for over 30 miles per gallon on the highway.
For those who want more power, Cadillac provides a 2.0-liter turbo engine of 270 horsepower (201 Kw / 273.75 PS).
The top range model will be provided by a direct-injected 3.6-liter V6, which can reach 318 horsepower (237.1 Kw / 322.4 PS).
All three engines can be ordered with a six-speed manual transmission or a Hydra Matic seven-speed automatic transmission, and both rear- and all-wheel drive will be available.. Responsible for the roadholding will be the Magnetic Ride Control system, which constantly adjusts the suspension to road conditions, ensuring either a comfortable driving or a sports driving.
During the presentation, it was also confirmed that the ATS will get a diesel engine in its first life-cycle, though specific details are unavailable as of this writing. Vice President of Cadillac Marketing, Don Butler, says the ATS’ key development themes were to make it “nimble, quick, [and] fun.”
Cadillac ATS Design
At the aesthetic level, 2013 Cadillac ATS wants to be a small-scale interpretation of its CTS brother. Same angular lines, manly, the same sporty silhouette completed by a set of 17 to 19 inches wheels. The front LED lights and the chromed elements aren’t missing too.
On the inside, customers will enjoy the new multimedia CUE system, allowing the management of all information with an 8-inch LCD. Optionally, Cadillac offers the Head-Up Display function.
