Mercedes has announced that the new generation of the G-Class will be officially presented on January 15th at the Detroit Auto Show.
After the facelift from 2012 (photo) and almost 40 years of activity, the time has come for Mercedes to unveil a new generation for the legendary Class G.
In a video published on Youtube, the Germans announced that the new Mercedes-Benz G will be officially presented on January 15th at the Detroit Auto Show.
Until now, the company has not provided any exterior details of the car, preferring a series of teasers only with its interior.
In the standard G500 version, the G-Class will be equipped with a 4.0 liter V8 engine capable of generating 415 horsepower and a torque of 610 Nm (450 lb/ft), while the G63 will use the same engine, but improved to reach over 600 horsepower. Both engines will use a 9-speed automatic transmission.
The new generation will be 2 centimeters (0.8 inches) wider, while the mass will drop by about 150 kilograms (330 lbs), and the longer wheelbase will allow for significantly more space for the interior and the trunk.
The new Mercedes-Benz G-Class will also benefit from a more luxurious interior thanks to the S-Class borrowed elements.
