The German automaker announced that Mercedes Urban eTruck, the electric truck concept introduced last year, will go into limited series production in the coming months.
Once they have defined largely ambitious plans to launch electric cars coming years, car manufacturers have begun to turn their attention to electric trucks.
Tesla Motors surprised the automotive industry and announced the development of electric trucks autonomous, but Mercedes has played the better: last year, presented the concept truck Electric Urban eTruck, and now the Germans announced that it will enter production series in the coming months. Moreover, the manufacturer claims that it will be the first electric heavy truck available on the market.
In addition, the truck features four electric concept and will be equipped with a 212 kWh battery that will allow him to reach a range of 200 kilometers. Obviously, autonomy is too small for such a highway truck to be used. Instead, as the name suggests, Urban eTruck will be used for transport of goods within cities or between cities area. It has a load capacity of 12.8 tons and total vehicle weight reaches 25 tons.
Until now, Mercedes has already received 20 orders from potential customers working in the fields or food chain. For starters, electric truck will be available only in Germany, and customers will benefit from free technical support for 12 months to adapt to the use of such a vehicle.
