2016 Audi A4 – the new generation: official pictures and information

Audi A4, the ancestral rival of BMW 3 Series, reached a new generation at the 43-year of career: 2016 Audi A4. The mid-range Audi will debut on the market in November.

Audi A4 bestseller in Ingolstadt brand reached new generation. Although the name A4 is the fifth generation family of mid-range models from Audi, formerly known as the Audi 80, dates from 1972 and has had four generations before the name change. Year 2015 marks the debut called B9 nomenclature generation Audi A4 hiding behind a completely new. The commercial launch of the new generation A4 takes place in November.

2016 Audi A4 DESIGN

The new A4 has a completely new design and spectacular. B9 generation aspect is the sportiest up now for A4, and the body is the largest so far offered by Audi. Engineers announces best in class drag coefficient of 0.23 for the sedan and 0.26 for the Avant, along with a significant reduction in weight compared to the previous generation. The difference in weight is up to 120 kg, depending on the embodiment chosen.

The first thing that stands out is the hexagonal front grille inspired by the Prologue concept. Front headlights are sharp and two variants are offered with optional LED lighting system, the most expensive being the LED array, which integrates Matrix LED indicators. Front headlights have two strips of LEDs for daytime running lights and position (for optional LED headlights Matrix) and one single standard for LED versions. Upper band plays the role of beacon and is complemented by LEDs in the door mirrors. Fog lights integrated into the underside of the headlight. In conventional position fog lights, Audi has mounted two cameras, offered optionally, which provides several driver assistance functions.

A4‘s hood has a different design from what we have shown so far the Germans and is extended laterally across areas where they are to another car the wings. The area around the side windows has a more classic, the most conservative part of the new A4, while the backside is as modern as the front. Indoor LED taillights were modified graphics and presents a bright new A4 signature.

Audi A4 B9 is built on MLB EVO borrowed from older siblings, Q7 and A8, and benefit from numerous aluminum components, and various alloys to minimize the total mass. The new body is 15 kg lighter compared to its predecessor, although A4 is 4.73 meters long, 1.84 meters wide, 1.42 meters tall and generous wheelbase of 2.82 meters.

A4’s suspension has been redesigned, as is the case with electromechanical steering. Starting with engines of 190 hp, B9 A4 has standard Audi drive select, the electrically adjustable shock absorbers (optional) and dynamic steering (optional). Body aerodynamic optimizations have gone further by the visible and are applied in the side road. The area below the engine compartment is covered completely, as is the section beneath the passenger cell, which is completely hidden metal to soften as much external noise. Multilink rear suspension arms in five points are also hidden and wheel lugs have channels airflow to aid aerodynamics.

Offer transmissions of Audi A4 B9 is composed of units manual and Tiptronic S tronic, all redesigned for better responses and lower fuel consumption. In the standard A4 has front wheel drive, but the quattro all-wheel drive with independent distribution of torque between the wheels is optional for many standard engines and propellers for certain. S tronic dual-clutch transmission is offered for the first time and for front-wheel drive versions, instead of the old Multitronic. Both automatic transmissions are based on “freewheeling”, which means that the engine can be decoupled from the wheels automatically and imperceptibly to the driver to reduce fuel consumption.

In terms of engines, the Audi A4 enjoys a fuel consumption reduction of 21% and an average power increase of 25% compared to its predecessor. At the time of the launch, they will be offered three sites TFSI and TDI four sites. Avant body version (only) of A4 will be available in a version g-tron 2.0 TFSI 170 hp, which can operate with compressed gas and petrol eco-gas is produced by the German company.

Entry-level version is equipped with a 1.4 TFSI engine of 150 HP, which announced a combined consumption of 4.9 liters per cent. The second petrol engine on offer is a 2.0 TFSI 190 hp unit, equipped with a redesigned combustion technology for maximum efficiency, hence the combined consumption of 4.8 liters per cent. New combustion technology shortens intake phase and extended combustion cycle expansion phase for increased efficiency at partial loads, the most common way of running for street cars. The secret of the system is the early closure of the intake valves, which reduces pumping losses. The Germans also increased the engine’s compression ratio from 9.6: 1 to 11.7: 1, close to what we find naturally aspirated units.

The Audi 2.0 TFSI say 190 hp diesel engine needs less fuel as 1.4 TFSI unit in the compression phase of the combustion process. Other changes implemented this engine include injection pressure increase to 250 bar, redesigning the channel inlet of the combustion chamber, pistons and turbocharger. At higher loads, the engine intake valves open later than in a conventional engine.

Peak range TFSI units for standard versions of the A4 (there will S4 and RS4 sports versions launched later) that develops 252 hp and is also a 2.0 engine, but 252 hp. It promises a combined fuel consumption of 5.7 liters per cent and a time 0-100 km / h in 5.8 seconds company seven-speed S tronic and quattro all-wheel drive.

The range of diesel engines in the A4 offer include four- and six-cylinder. Entry-level diesel engine (at the time of launch) is a 2.0 TDI with 150 hp and 320 Nm. His brother displacement offers 190 hp and 400 Nm. Later, Audi will also offer a 2.0 TDI 122 bhp A4 range. The new engine 2.0 TDI Euro 6 has reduced internal friction and injection system operating at maximum pressure of 2,000 bar.

An A4 Sedan 2.0 TDI 150 PS with S tronic transmission and front-wheel drive needs 8.7 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h. 190 hp variant with the same configuration is one second faster until percent. Both engines 2.0 TDI versions will be offered in “ultraoptimized for the lowest possible fuel consumption. In the version with manual transmission and front-wheel drive, the A4 2.0 TDI 150 HP announces a combined consumption of 3.8 liters per cent and CO2 emissions of 99 grams per kilometer. Version “ultra” of this engine to 3.7 liter combined fuel consumption reduces percent.

The new A4 is offered and diesel engines with 3.0-liter V6. We are talking about two variants, which provides 218 or 272 hp. 218 hp version of the V6 TDI‘s torque finishes of 400 Nm between 1,250 rpm and 3,750 rpm and promises a combined fuel consumption of 4.2 liters per cent for front-wheel drive version, the best value for a six-cylinder diesel engine this class.

The most powerful diesel in the A4 offer 272 hp and 600 Nm finishes and comes standard with eight-speed Tiptronic transmission. Maximum torque is delivered between 1,500 and 3,000 rpm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h is carried out in 5.3 seconds (Sedan), while the combined consumption is 4.9 liters per cent. Avant‘s diesel variant top of A4 accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.4 seconds and has an NEDC combined consumption of 5.1 liters per cent.

2016 Audi A4 INTERIOR

The new generation of the A4 comes with the most spacious interior ever offered by a mid-range model from Audi. Area head, shoulder and leg in the front seats has increased compared to its predecessor and Audi representatives say they have the best value in the segment. Long wheelbase allows a higher level of space for rear seat occupants. At the aesthetic level, A4‘s interior architecture has concentrated on straight lines and simplicity. The dashboard has a long section composed of ventilation of air conditioning system, as has the Volkswagen Passat, but the A4 section is fully functional. The Germans took the opportunity and made an air conditioning system that takes advantage of this and the cabin air can dissipate easily without blowing it firmly toward occupants.

The standard board has analog clocks within a five-inch color screen, but is offered and Virtual Cockpit system released on TT, which is a 12.3 inch LCD screen. If a customer opts for the navigation system, it comes as a seven-inch monitor placed at half board, not board recessed or retractable. The screen does not provide tactile control being used by MMI and its rotary button (optionally provided with tactile control surface). Quality materials on board increased compared to the previous generation, and simple controls are located. On board no longer used conventional bulbs, but LEDs and optional ambient lighting system has 30 color settings.

Audi introduced all his recent technologies on board the A4. The Germans went so far as to offer tablets designed and manufactured in-house in the back. Driver assistance systems have the ability to maintain lane at speeds up to 65 km / h, and this function can track the front column without the driver having hands on the wheel, while the car has automatic transmission and is not exceeded 12 km / h (restricted for legal reasons). Assistance systems include monitoring traffic to back out of parking, with warning and automatic braking if an imminent impact, and parking can be done automatically by the system provided (optional).

A4 also has voice command system able to understand complex commands. For example, the optional voice assistant can understand commands like “Where do I fill up?” “I’m hungry” or “I’ll call him Alex.” The user is put forward choice to communicate more easily after system puts the first question. A wireless charging system for mobile phones can be mounted in the central armrest and multimedia unit supports mirroring function with smartphones.

Graphics multimedia system is provided by a Tegra 3 quad chip from Nvidia. The new A4 is offered and head-up display system that displays relevant information on a 20×8 cm area located on the windshield. MMI Navigation system includes a hard disk for storing audio files, it can be ordered with 4G internet speeds and there is even a smartphone application dedicated machine. With the application, the driver can remember where he parked the car heading to verify whether the doors are locked, to find the fuel and order stationary heating system.
