Chevrolet Equinox is part of a growing segment of the “plus” small crossover SUVs. Like other such vehicles, the Equinox offers utility and style normally associated with more traditional SUVs, but not their clumsy driving dynamics and fuel economy poor. Like other crossover, the Equinox is built on a platform that provides superior on-road and carlike comfort palituri resistance.
There were two generations Equinox. earlier models were known for their roomy interiors and easy to ride nature, but also suffered from indoor materials that do not correspond. The second-generation Equinox, due to sharp styling, improved cabin fit and finish, additional features and new engine choices, is a much improved vehicle and a top pick for a small crossover SUV.
Current Chevrolet Equinox:
Chevrolet Equinox crossover SUV is available in LS, 1lt, 2 l and LTZ trim levels. LS comes very well equipped with power front seat height adjustment, a sliding and reclining rear seats, OnStar and a sound system with CD player, satellite radio and an auxiliary audio jack. 1lt adds a USB port, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and Bluetooth, while the two that it gets automatic climate control, heated seats and a rearview camera. Top-dog LTZ comes with a power tailgate and leather upholstery. All models have stability control and a full complement of airbags as standard. In the magazine, our editors have been quite impressed with the current Chevy Equinox. In addition to its beautiful style, the Equinox has a quiet cabin, comfortable and supple ride over broken pavement. Other than mediocre ability to load, Equinox well equipped and well-rounded has a lot going for it and is a strong entry in the compact crossover segment.
Chevrolet Equinox Models
The second generation debuted for 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. Other than some minor adjustments to availability feature is built on the same.
Previously Chevy Equinox was produced from 2005-’09. Unlike the current model came with a standard V6 engine and the only option was an even more powerful V6, which arrived for 2008. A wide range of trim levels were available. Even base models come with a CD player and full power accessories, while the higher trim levels, depending on the year, added niceties as alloy wheels, leather seats, heated front seats and upgraded audio. In the first generation Chevy Equinox magazine, our editors praised the versatile interior, especially 60/40-split rear seat, which could be slipped nearly 8 inches fore and aft. One shelf adjustable rear cargo storage increased opportunities have doubled as a picnic table. I noticed that there are a lot of room behind the rear seats – 35 cubic meters, to be precise – and a full 69 cubic feet with the seats folded, which is more than the current Equinox can gather. Along the way, however, before the Equinox was not anything to write home about. have long been a breeze thanks quiet cabin and smooth ride, but the V6 was a bit harsh, and power steering was numb and slow.

What’s New for 2011
For 2011, Chevrolet Equinox optional V6 now has E85 capability. Improvements include heated cloth seats on two models of it and a compass on LS models. A USB port, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and Bluetooth connectivity is now standard on models 1lt, OnStar and services has been updated to Directions and Connections standard (providing access to the OnStar navigation and information services) for a trial period of six months .
Spacious and elegant with a V6 available snappy Equinox previous generation had its charm, but did not shine enough to overcome its rivals. As a result, hauler capable but undistinguished Chevy was left to linger on lots as buyers flocked to the popular election of the likes of Honda and Toyota. But thanks to a complete redesign last year, the latest Equinox has vaulted up to be a top pick in the small crossover SUV segment.
2011 Chevrolet Equinox has the character and refinement? two traits that have been missing in previous generation models, and crossovers, many small indeed in general. With a rear seat that slides back to create a stretch worthy of a prom-night limousine, Equinox rear legs easily counts among its strengths. Ride quality is another plus, with a delivery Equinox ride stable and well planted. In terms of equipment, Chevy is fully competitive with plenty of standard features and some nice upgrades as a navigation system based hard drive.
Under the hood you will find the opportunity to choose either a 182 horsepower inline-4 or a 264 horsepower V6 engine. Both these engines deliver respectable acceleration and the four-cylinder engine is notable for its above average fuel economy (even though I found it does not fulfill its noble enough EPA estimates). Another selling point is its upscale Equinox looks good, the cabin is attractive and expensive-looking interior features quality materials and is finally competitive with other options in this segment.
The most significant area where the 2011 Chevrolet Equinox is LAG load capacity. Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 all boast more space, which could be a factor if you frequently use your small crossover to launch a lot of things. Equinox also appears to drive a bit lifeless compared to sportier models like the Kia Sportage and the Mazda CX-7. But pretty much every other measure that matters – the cabin design, fuel economy, comfort and safety – Chevy crossover is a front-runner.
Body styles, trim levels and options
2011 Chevrolet Equinox is a compact crossover SUV available in LS, 1lt, 2 l and LTZ trim levels.
LS standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, air conditioning, full power accessories, power front seat height adjustment, a folding and sliding rear seat, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, OnStar and a six -speaker sound system with CD player, satellite radio and an auxiliary audio jack. 1lt adds tinted rear, roof rails, leather-wrapped steering wheel, Bluetooth and an iPod / USB audio interface. When equipped with optional V6 engine, 18 inch alloy wheels are added.
2 Equinox it gets you the above features, plus fog lights, remote ignition, heated front seats, automatic climate control, an eight-way driver seat, power mirror a self-reduction, a rearview camera (mounted in the rearview mirror ) and an eight-speaker Pioneer stereo. Top-shelf LTZ adds automatic headlights, a power tailgate, rear parking sensors, leather upholstery and driver memory functions.
Many standard features found on the ceilings above the thresholds may be added as options below. All ornaments Equinox, except for LS can be had with a sunroof. 2 l and LTZ can be equipped with a rear entertainment system and a navigation system with voice recognition and digital music storage. LTZ V6 can be equipped with optional 19-inch wheels coated in chrome.
Engines and performance
Every 2011 Chevrolet Equinox comes standard with a 2.4-liter engine produces 182 horsepower four-cylinder and 172 pound-feet of torque. Optional on all but LS is a 3.0-liter V6 good for 264 hp and 222 lb-ft of torque. Both engines come standard with a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, four-wheel drive is optional. When equipped with four-cylinder engine, the Equinox is the sprint from 0 to 60-km / h in 9.3 seconds, which is about average for this segment.
Equinox A four-cylinder front-wheel reach an EPA-estimated 22 mpg city/32 mpg highway and 26 mpg combined. All-wheel drive reduces these estimates to 20/29/23. A front-wheel drive Equinox V6 gets an estimated $ 17/25/20 with all-wheel-drive versions dropping one mpg on the highway. As impressive as these numbers are, however, I noticed that the Equinox more battles than most vehicles to match those numbers in the real world.
2011 Chevy Equinox comes standard with antilock disc brakes (with brake assist), traction and stability control, front seat side airbags, curtain side airbags and OnStar. A rearview camera and rear parking sensors are optional.
Equinox has been evaluated using the new government, more consistent in 2011 crash test procedure, however, the 2010 rating (which is not comparable with the new methodology) was a top five stars for his performance in the head and on- side impact collisions for all occupants. In side-impact and frontal offset testing conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, Equinox won a top “Good” rating.
Interior Design and Special Features
Chevy Equinox is an elegant cabin filled with premium touches. Available in two colors are appealing color schemes, and perfectly complement the stylish dashboard, swooping dual-cowl. All in all, the Equinox’s interior looks more luxurious than most others in this segment.
Switchgear and controls for air conditioning and audio system feels substantial, a pleasant departure from the cookie-cutter units found in many other GM models. The disadvantage is that center console is affected by a number of similar-looking buttons and can be difficult for shorter drivers to reach.
Like its exterior, plus size suggests, Equinox offers a spacious cabin. Adjust the sliding rear seat back and rear leg room you will find that is the most generous in this segment, the rear seat also reclines for passenger comfort. There are lots of possibilities for storage inside the cabin, with an emphasis on being a huge bin, which sits under the center armrest of the front row. Cargo capacity, however, is not that impressive. There is a maximum 31.4 cubic feet of space behind the rear sliding seat, with rear seat folded down, a figure that increases to 63.7 cubic feet. As such, the Equinox offers cargo space of less than rivals Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4.
Acceleration of the four-cylinder engine in 2011 Chevrolet Equinox is respectable? especially in light of strong fuel economy – and should prove satisfactory for most buyers. V6 is a good match for those who want gutsier performance, providing an output of 264 hp, which marks it as one of the strongest choices in the segment.
Road and wind noise are not an issue in the Equinox, which has a very quiet cabin at highway speeds. Ride quality is also impressive interstate road trips, offering a buttoned-down feel indicative of larger SUVs. Handling is unremarkable and direction is undeniably vague? although we suspect that these two shortcomings will not be a problem for Equinox’s target demographic.
